About Silk Route

With International significance this road was an international passage. This road helped to integrate many countries like India, Persia, Arabia, Greece and Rome, etc. A part of this road is now in West Bengal & Sikkim, which was a connecting road between Lhasa in Tibet via the Jelep La pass to India.

Old Silk Route is one of the best and unique tourist place in East Sikkim, which is located in the lap of eastern Himalaya. Old Silk route is an ideal tour destination for adventure tourists. Many activities are available in this route such as Trekking, camping, fishing, rock climbing, Jungle tour. Nature’s beauty can be seen everywhere in the silk route. View of Mt. Kanchenjunga from many points of silk route, River in Reshikhola with cool and crystal clear water, Lake in Lempokhari, waterfall in Quekhola, Lake in Kuppup (famous for water polo, Yak golf course and ice hocky ground). Do’s and Dont’s in Silk Route :

-        If you are nature lover and have passion of adventure then only silk route is for you.

-    Luxurious hotels, meal and luxurious vehicle is not available in this area, so expecting these services in this area will kill enjoyment.

-        Silk route is a remote area, so do not expect modern facilities here.

-        Homestays are good and clean, enough to fulfill basic requirements like a home.

-        Tourists who suffers from breathing problem, we suggest them avoid to stay in zuluk, and gnathang.

-        Be careful with leech, when you visit forest area.

-       Think positive and clear not in complicated way and enjoy nature and it beauty with your inner soul.

-        Do not demand luxurious items from homestays.

Farming is the main source of income for livelihood here, however a sense of eco-tourism has been developed in the village and the villagers have extended their houses for home stays also. Some villagers have also developed retreats for providing services like hotel accommodations, but these retreats are too basic and meant mainly for budget travelers. These homestays & retreats provide meal with limited items.

Bon-Fire, Bar-B-Q, Camp Fire, Camping, Trekking, Jungle tour can be arranged additionally by the home stays.

Villagers’ are very concerned about the cleanliness of the village and their collective effort make the ambience of the clean village. This village provide a nice view of Kanchenjunga and trekker love to trek to Ramitay view point and Tinchuley view point and Damsang Fort also.

Ramitay View point     : This place is about 2 Kms from Sillery Gaon and very nice place to trek. A very clear view can be seen on clear day of Kanchenjunga and other mountain peaks. Below from this point Teesta river can be seen

Tinchuley View Point : This is an another point to trek for half an hour steep uphill trek.From this point Jelep La pass and Nathula pass can be seen on clear day.

Damsung Fort             : This place is about 3 kms from Sillery Gaon and famous for trek also. Some ruins of fort are visible here, which was built by Lepcha King Gyabo Achyok to defend the territory from Bhutias

Silent Valley                  : As the name defines itself as a Valley, it is situated from Sillery gaon at approx 3 Kms and takes approx 10-15 minutes by vehicle and it is surrounded by Pine tree and its very quite place.
